31 Spooky Casual Friday

No Halloween costume post here....that happened last weekend at the Halloween party.

I got an email asking why I crop my head out of the pictures I post daily, and I guess it's confession time. I don't put my makeup on at home in the morning (I think maybe I should have included this in my honest weblog info). I put my make up on in my car on my way to work. I know, I know, it's dangerous and not good to do that, but guess what? I do. I don't try to put stuff on while I'm actually moving, but when I'm at a light, I put my make up on. I don't wear a lot during the week either, so it's quick and easy. I don't look bad without make up, but I look better with it. So, that's why. On to the outfit....

Today's Outfit
Top: White cami tank - AGX
Blue (see through!) cardi - Mossimo, Target
Bottom: Brown twill pants - Merona, Target
Shoes: Red patent wedge peep toes - Madeline Stuart, Ross
Necklace was gifted

It's going to be in the 80's this weekend here in much for fall!

Honest Weblog

Thanks, Penny Pinching Princess for tagging me with the Honest Weblog! I'm late, here are my 10....

1. I have three Chihuahuas...yes, 3! I only "wanted" 1, but then was given the 2nd by my mom. The 3rd one came when I was helping a friend out who needed to find a home for him....I found a home...mine. If I could afford it and had more room, I think I could have 1 more dog, but I won't.

2. I'm very scared of monkeys...actually, all primates...they kind of gross me out.

3. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE New Kids on the Block! I knew they would get back together eventually, that's why I refused to throw away any of my posters or magazines I had with them in it. My mom cleaned out my old closet a few months ago and gave me a big box of the stuff I had...paid off for me because that's how I won sound check passes and got to meet them!

4. I love watching cooking shows on the Food Network and have cook books, but I really don't like cooking that much.

5. I'm the oldest of three, but truth be told, I have more of the middle child characteristics than my younger sister and she has more of the oldest child characteristics. My brother is def. the baby.

6. I'm bossy.....I try not to be sometimes, but it hasn't worked out for me that much!

7. When I was younger, I really wanted to be a plastic surgeon. I thought it would be so cool to help people out. I did a big school project on my favorite career and when I found out how long you have to go to school I said, "forget it." I got my BBA in Finance and International Business instead.

8. I use a calculator all the time....I mean, even to add simple numbers. If I don't have a calculator with me, I can't really do any calculations in my head....I attribute it to the dependence of the graphing calculator for Calculus in high school and my financial calculator in college.

9. I have one of the oldest cell phones still works! I'm not really into phones.

10. Besides being bossy, I'm also messy. I'm lucky my boyfriend is neat...he keeps it together.

30 Ruffles, Ruffles

I love ruffled necklines...a bit too much. As I mentioned on my other ruffled neckline post, I always want to buy them but then worry if I will look too clownish. I've seen lots of cute ones lately, but they're in boring white...I have enough white shirts as it is. I got this one at Dots, and have made good use of it! It's almost the weekend...can't wait to relax!

Today's Outfit
Top: Sleeveless ruffled shirt - Dots
Red s/s cardigan - Mossimo, Target
Bottom: Brown Allegory pants - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Brown faux snake skin, peep toe, t-strap - Steve Madden, Ross
Belt: Brown weave belt - Mossimo, Target

29 A Few of My Favorite Things

No outfit post from yesterday....I was running late and I didn't like my outfit anyway. Today's outfit incorporates lots of things I love: purple, animal print, boots, and belts! I have a hard time finding boots that fit my calves, although this wasn't always the case. I do have boots in the closet that make my legs look a little sausage-like, but since I love them, it's hard to part. I scored these at DressBarn of all places! Although I prefer a much higher heel, these stretch enough to zip and not look sausage-y!

Today's Outfit
Top: Deep Purple turtleneck - Merona, Target
Bottom: Grey/black cheetah print skirt - NY and Co
Shoes: Black knee high boots - DressBarn
Belt: Black, skinny belt - NY and Co
Tights: Black tights - Merona, Target

Some Blog Love

I know I'm totally late on this (as usual), but wanted to go ahead and send a shout to these lovely ladies for the I love your blog award! Thanks, Missi and Nic over at Domestic Sophisticate!

27 A Walk on the Wild Side

I had another outfit planned for today, but when I woke up and saw that the high was going to be 70, it wasn't really appropriate, so I had to come up with another plan. I love this dress and am glad I purchased it. I'm thinking though that I'm going to take it to the alterations lady and get the sleeves shortened to 3/4 length. I kind of feel like I'm wearing a leotard!

I also opted for the peep toes with tights look, I'm stepping out of my comfort zone!

Today's Outfit

Dress: Leopard print tie back dress - NY and Co

Shoes: Peep toe, faux snake skin pump - Newport News

Tights: Black tights - Merona, Target

25 Halloween Party

A group of my friends, including Hill and Melissa held our annual Halloween party this weekend. I was part of a group costume from Grease 2, A Girl For All Seasons, and I was Spring. I figured I'd dress up as a leprechaun, but that proved to be a task in itself to find a costume that was not only appropriate, but flattering. One that I found online I thought had major potential, but when I received it in the mail, it was a bubble skirt! Uh, no bubble skirts on this body! So, I improvised, and put together my "home made" leprechaun costume. I think it turned out pretty good and we all had a wonderful time!

Since it was Halloween, I decided to glam up my face with false eyelashes. I've only worn them one other time a couple of years ago on Halloween. Opening my eyes proved to be a challenge with these things on! I know lots of people wear them, but I just don't know how. I'm sure it didn't help that I bought the biggest pair I could find and wore them the whole night. I tried the individual piece lashes, but that was too tough. Next time I'll opt for a full set of lashes, but at different lengths!

24 Casual Friday

I've wanted to wear a scarf for a while now and through OTG's accessory swap, I got some great goodies from Kimberly, including a fabulous scarf! I also wanted to try to buy my own, but something a bit more casual for a casual Friday at work. I have to also say that when I saw Donnie at my San Antonio meet & greet, I loved his scarf! I knew it would be expensive, it's Vuitton, but wanted to see how much it would set me back. So, I researched online and found out it's only $450....but, yea, I'm not going to spend that much on a scarf. The next best thing was to find something that I really liked in colors I would actually wear that was both super cute and casual. I think I found it in this scarf I'm wearing today from Target. I love Target!

Today's Outfit
Top: V-neck, long sleeve, Plum tee - Mossimo, Target
Bottom: Gap edition, classic rise jean - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Brown pointy toe boots - Two Lips,
Scarf: Stripey Plaid Woven Wrap - Black, Target (This isn't the exact scarf I got, mine was $12, but it looks like this)

I also scored this jacket at Target a couple of weeks ago, it was on clearance for $15!

23 Thursday Outfit

I'm so glad the weekend is almost here! We got so much rain last night and guess what the rain brought? Cool temperatures..yea! No need to run the a/c right now, that's a welcome treat.
Before starting to read fashion blogs and starting this, there is no way that I would have ever put this color combo together with the red shoes....I just couldn't do it, let alone wearing this belt. I'm glad I did though!

Today's Outfit

Top: Off white cami - Merona, Target
Aqua Cardigan - Cherokee, Target
Bottom: Brown, Allegory pants - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Red patent peep toe wedge - Madeline Stuart, Ross
Belt: Leopard print, gold buckle - Mossimo, Target

22 Wednesday Outfit

No post from yesterday's outfit because I was and still am sicky poo. I was so sick I didn't make it to the Janet and LL concert last night! You know I have to be feeling bad to pass up a concert. I heard LL cancelled, and I've seen Janet in concert before, so it was okay. Thankfully, I'm starting to get and feel better....have to be ready for this weekend's Halloween Party! I'm still getting my costume together......I hope I can pull it off!

Today's Outfit
Blue multi colored tie back dress with puffy sleeves - Intrigue, Macy's
Black cami - Linda Leal, Steinmart
Plum peep toe, faux suede t-straps - Nine West, Macy's

20 Monday's Outfit

Back to work after a four day weekend. I had a wonderful weekend and now I'm paying for it, but I'll manage.

Today's Outfit
Top: Purple paisley print smocked top - Design Works, Macy's
Plum cami - AGX
Bottom: Black Allegory pants - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Black peep toe pumps - Enzo, Macy's

Any ideas what else I could wear this top with? I get tons of compliments whenever I wear it, but tend to shy away from it because to me, it's not very pants, black skirt....does it always have to be black? Let me know what you think!

18 Yesterday's Outfit

Another concert outfit. So after all these years, I finally lived my childhood dream of meeting NKOTB. I'm happy it worked out for me and had a wonderful time at the two concerts I went to. It was fun remembering the concerts I had been to and going to these two shows. Next up is Janet and LL, and then Madonna! If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a pop music junkie!

Today's Concert Outfit
(Jordan Knight, me, Joe Mc Intyre, aka New Kids Sandwich....who wouldn't want one of these? Look at my big Kool-Aid grin!)

Top: Purple gathered top - Newport News
Bottom: Gap Edition Classic Jean - Forth and Towne
Shoes (not pictured): Black Peep Toe Slingbacks - Cathy Jean
Accessories: Silver, leaf earrings - Charming Charlie
Black gathered clutch/purse - Gifted

16 The Best Day EVER!

No "usual" outfit post today because I didn't go to work, I had the day off to do this:

I won sound check passes to the NKOTB concert and it was AMAZING!!! Although Donnie and Jon did not attend the sound check, I got to meet Joe (my favorite), Danny, and Jordan. Tomorrow I'm heading to San Antonio to go to the concert there as well, this time I will have very good seats so I will have better pictures. My hair wasn't acting quite right during the sound check...probably because I decided to use a really skinny curling iron today and was all curly Q, but it fell a bit later into waves.

Today's Concert Outfit
Top: Teal ruched top - AGX
Bottom: GAP Edition, boot cut jeans - Forth and Towne
Shoes: (not pictured) Natural, peep toe pumps - Nine West, Marshall's

15 Wednesday's Outfit

I've never had a pencil skirt because I've always been thick in the hips, thighs, and butt area, but I figure it's in style so I would give it a try. I like how it turned out, so now I want a black pencil skirt too! My pic turned out grainy today, but I'm still practicing, so it will get better.

Today's Outfit
Bottom: Grey, pencil skirt - Old Navy
Shoes: Black, faux snake skin, peep toe, mj - Newport News
Accessories: Thick, black braided belt - NY and Co

14 A Grey Day

My intention was to get up and go workout (4:45 am) and I did wake up, got my workout gear on (shoes, even!) and saw I had a few minutes to spare. So what did I do? Laid back down in my bed! And what time did I get up? Uh, 5:30!!! (Sorry, Lynette!) So. not. good. I had to just get up anyway and get myself together for my early morning meeting.
Today's Outfit
Top: Purple, gathered tunic top - Daisy Fuentes, Kohl's
Bottom: Grey, wide leg pants - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Grey round toe pumps - Jessica Simpson, Macy's
Accessories: Metallic grey belt - Xhilaration, Target
Necklace - NY and Co

These shoes are killer! I am really into heels and wear them everyday....but these, these kill. I literally can't walk in them for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. I once wore them to a party and have vowed never to do that again. They're cute to look at, but forget everyday wear.

13 What a Day!

I'm posting at the end of my day today because I didn't have time this morning. I'm so tired! Who would have thought that sitting all day would wear you out? I guess when you're in a meeting for 4 hours, that's what happens. It looks like the sweater is pulling in this pic, but I assure you it is not. I absolutely love ruffle neck lines and always want to purchase them. I didn't feel weird in this one, but sometimes I do feel like a clown.
Today's Outfit

Top: IM sleeveless, ruffle neck blouse - IM, Target

Short sleeve v-neck cardi - Old Navy

Bottom: Black, tweedish pants - Forth and Towne

Shoes: Black peep toe pumps - Enzo, Macy's

Hope everyone had a good day!

Eleven Little Things

The lovely E tagged me with the Eleven Little Things Meme, here it goes....

1. Clothing Shop: The now defunct Gap brand store, Forth and Towne. Even though this store was marketed to a "more mature" woman, I loved their clothes! They were classic pieces that anyone could wear. I guess that makes NY and Co and Target my stores of choice.

2. Furniture Shop: Don't have a favorite, but my stuff is a mix of a chain store where my bedroom and living room came from, Ikea, and some Target pieces. A good mix.

3. Sweet: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

4. City: Chicago, DC, and of course Houston!

5. Drink: Regular has to be water and then diet Coke, Adult is vodka/tonic or vodka/water w/limes or some vino.

6. Music: I'm so Top 40/Pop/Hip Hop/R&B. I have 2 NKOTB concerts, Madonna, Janet/LL Cool J, and Coldplay coming up!

7. TV Series: My DVR's on overdrive: Oprah, Grey's, Private Practice, Office, Real Housewives, etc.

8. Film: My all time is The Goonies with Mary Poppins coming in at second. But I do love me some SATC movie!

9. Workout: I'm trying...I started back at the gym this week...5am!

10. Pastries: Cupcakes, my mom's pecan pie or her Tres Leches...yum!

11. Coffee: regular-2 creamers, 2 splendas; fancy - pumpkin or cinnamon dolce non fat latte

10 Casual Friday

Yea, it's Friday!
I'm going to volunteer on both Saturday and Sunday with the Junior League, go to the movies, try to find some pieces for my Halloween costume, and catch up on some shows in my dvr. A whole lot of relaxing stuff.

Today's Outfit
Top: Sleeveless, grey, floral print bow-tie top - Old Navy
Bordeaux, rib knit cardigan - Old Navy
Bottom: Dark rinse boot cut jeans - Mossimo, Target
Shoes: Brown, pointy-toe pumps - Anne Klein, Macy's

The cardigan I have on today is on sale at ON (so is the tie top) and it's so cozy and not too thick. It's perfect for layering, I think I might have to buy a couple of other colors! I saw this top and cardi paired up in ON (and on this lovely lady), and I knew it was a matter of time before both pieces went on sale. I scooped these up during the BFF 20% off sale a couple of weeks ago.

09 Thursday's Outfit

I love animal print. I don't typically go overboard with it and only own a few pieces, but I really do love everything leopard, zebra, giraffe, etc. Whenever I see other people wearing prints I always admire their ability to pull it off without being so over the top.

Today's Outfit
Top: Raspberry zebra short sleeve cardigan - NY and Co
Black Cami - Agaci Too, AGX
Bottom: Black lined pants - Forth and Towne
Shoes: Black patent, peep toe, strap heel - Damita K, Charming Charlie
Accessories: Black skinny belt - NY and Co

I posted my shoes from yesterday's outfit (on yesterday's post), per Milly's request.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Is this dress office appropriate? Or is it too much for the corporate environment? I have a business casual dress code. Let me know what you think! Like I mentioned in my post earlier today, I tend to stay away from all over prints, but I really did love this dress too. I'd pair it with black heels....keep it simple for the office.

08 Wild Wednesday

I titled this Wild Wednesday because of the print I'm wearing. I typically stay away from print, especially all over, but when I saw this dress at NY and Co, I had to have it. I love the colors and this really did make me feel like Fall was coming. It's finally getting cool here in TX, so I may be limited in the number of days I can keep pulling off the bare legs look.

Today's Outfit
Dress: 3/4 sleeve Fall color print dress - NY and Co
Shoes: Faux snake skin, peep toe, t-strap brown shoes - Steve Madden, Ross

I use to think that wearing a dress or a skirt was more hassle than pants, but I think I may be changing my mind. It's so much easier to just slip a dress on. Of course with the help of Sara Blakely!

Thanks, Kimberly for the tips with the camera...I'm experimenting and I think the pics I took this morning turned out better!

07 I'm a Mess Tuesday

You ever wake up, think you have it together for the day, and then turns out, you just don't? That's me today. Now that I'm at work, things are going to be fine, but getting here was most of the battle! I woke up early, went to workout, and had an outfit idea in my head. When I got home, I got all the pieces together (which I should have done last night), ironed (again, should have done last night), and when I put it on, I was like...."Really, this is what I thought would look okay today?" Uh, no, but it was too late to change my mind, I needed to get to work and get on with my day. The day's already much better now!
Today's Outfit
Top: Polka dot, button down, short sleeve, tie top - Merona, Target
Black v-neck sweater shell - Hillard & Hanson, Mervyn's (yes, this is that old!)
Bottom: Maroon cuffed pants - Worthington, JCP
Shoes: Pointy toe, black slingbacks - Parade

I need to experiment with my camera, I have no clue what all the functions are for and really don't care, but my bottom half is so dark and I have all the lights on in my house! Maybe I need to pick a new place for pics, we'll see.

06 Monday Outfit

My weekend was spent with friends at a party, cleaning the kitchen, walking the dogs, and catching up on my DVR'ed shows.

What a great bargain shopper am I? My outfit is less than $40! That's a win in my book.
Today's Outfit
Dress: 3/4 sleeve, v-neck, umpire waist dress - Rhapsody, Ross
Tank: Black strappy tank - Linda Leal, Steinmart
Shoes: Garnet red, peep toe pumps - Madeline Stuart, Ross
Accessories: Black and Silver necklace - NY and Co

Is it umpire waist or empire waist? I looked online and saw it both ways, or maybe they are two different types of waist, and I just don't know? You tell me.

10 days until the NKOTB concert in Houston and 11 days until the one in San Antonio....yes, I'm going to both....if I could afford it I would go to more of them! Can't wait!

03 Casual Friday

I'm so glad it's Friday! I know it's technically Fall/Autumn, and I know I've written this before, but it's Houston! The high is forecasted to be 88 degrees...that's kind of cool for Houston, but it's still not cool enough all day to wear long sleeves or a thick sweater. So I figured that I'd give my outfit it's one and only hoorah since I just got the pointelle sweater from ON's BFF 20% off sale and I got my goodies this week in the mail.

Today's Outfit
Top: Agaci Too White cami/tank - AGX
White long sleeve pointelle cardi - Old Navy (I tried to find it on the site, but I guess they sold out in their BFF sale!)
Bottom: Navy twill pants - Old Navy
Shoes: Camel cut out, peep toe pumps - Steve Madden, Macy's
Accessories: Gold, brown, and black necklace - Gift from Holley
Gold hoops - Old Navy

One of my dogs, Belle, was in every picture I took this morning, so I had to choose the one where both of us looked okay. I know the lighting is not the best, but this will do. In other ones she was covering up my shoes, jumping up, and then looking more like a weasel than a dog...she's so squirmy and hyper!

02 A Bit More Casual

Even though it's not Friday, I decided to go a bit more casual today. My idea of casual is anytime I'm wearing jeans or khaki pants. They're cotton and easily wrinkled. I do wear jeans when I go out with friends, but the tops, shoes and accessories make the outfit a bit more dressy.
Today's Outfit
Bottom: Khaki Twill pants - JC Penney
Shoes: Nine West Plum peep-toe, t-strap pump - Macy's

01 Wednesday's Outfit

No catchy title here...I've taken a cue from E and wanted to start my titles with the date of the month, that way if I have a catchy title, great, but if not, I'll know what the date is!

So, when you're like me, you fit into misses clothes, but can sometimes wear women's sizes. I must say I do have a hard time with women's because although they cut the pants for bigger thighs and hips (!), sometimes it's a tad too much. I swear by my alterations lady and love her for making things fit me.

I saw this dress at Target a while back and tried it on. It was too big, but I thought it was so cute! Yesterday when I went to Target (my weekly stop), I saw it was on clearance (30% off), so I figured I'd give it a try. I took it home, washed it, and *gasp* dried it! I NEVER put my clothes in the dryer unless something is a bit too big or they're undergarments, or something I just don't really care that much about. The dress did shrink a tiny bit, but I still feel like it's too big on me, so I'm going to take it to my trusty alterations lady this weekend along with some pants and a dress I need to get hemmed.

Today's Outfit

Dress: Mossimo - Target
Shoes: Black and White snakeskin, peep-toe, slingback, MJ's - Newport News
Accesories: I used the self belt the dress came with and did actually put a necklace and earrings on before heading out the door.

What other color of belt should I try out with this dress? I tried a thick, black belt, but that one kept sliding around my waist.
